The Open Road

It's been awhile hasn't it? I was busy preparing to move to Growing Things Farm out near Carnation, Washington. We took four days to drive from Lincoln to Seattle, stopping in Estes Park, Colorado for a few days to visit with friends. It was a beautiful drive full of sunny days and the open road. Here's a few photos from the drive out to the Northwest.

School Garden

For the past year and a half I've been working with a few others on building elementary school gardens. Most of my time was spent at just one school, Saratoga, where there was an established 17'x98' garden space. We created a classroom/sitting area with found benches and tree stumps, curly willow pea tepees, raised no-dig garden beds, bike rim trellises, potato tires, a compost pile, and a native grasses and flowers section. We also worked with kids in an after school garden club to teach them how to garden, sustainability, and so on. Providing the garden to the school allows for the students, their families, and the teachers to have an outdoor learning space, as well as access to fresh produce.

I could probably go on and on about school gardens and how beneficial/important they are as that's what I wrote my undergraduate thesis on . . . instead, I'll just show you a few photos.

Hello Summer

Well, it's been awhile since I last posted . . . almost a month! I suppose it's because I was busy finishing up school, and making sure everything was in line for me to graduate. It's a bit odd, being a college graduate. I don't feel like I am prepared to begin a career of any sorts really, so I'm thankful that I have an internship coming up. I'll be interning on an organic farm starting in June and lasting until the end of October. The farm, Growing Things Farm, is near Carnation, Washington just east of Seattle. Until then I'll be working and enjoying my last few days here in Lincoln.

Fashion . . .?

Hello hello! Few people know that I have a weak spot for fashion. It may not be apparent from the way I dress, but I do rather enjoy reading fashion blogs and pulling inspiration from their posts. So I thought today I would show you some photos that aren't farm or outdoor related, but some photos that inspire the fashion loving side of me. (Click image for source)

One of my favorite blogs, Knight Cat, always puts together various outfits. So I thought I'd share a few that I like.

Another favorite blog of mine, and is one that probably most people who are into fashion read, is The Sartorialist (click here). So here are a few photos that Scott has posted on his blog that I love. I would suggest clicking the link (just above) to check out the full glory of what The Sartorialist is.

What I love most about this photo, and it's something that Scott mentions, is how she balances her body with a chunkier heel. I am going to have to remember this when shopping for new shoes . . .

Mainly just love this one for the bike. :)

If you know me, you'll know that this is a style I try to wear often. I like having a slightly girly look, but still enjoy wearing functional pieces of clothing (like a utility jacket).

I could go on posting more looks that I like, but my coffee cup is now empty so I'm off to get ready for the day.

Instead of hitting the books as I should probably have done tonight, I spent my evening browsing the Desire to Inspire blog. Here are some photos that sparked some inspiration for me. Enjoy!

Airstream

As you know I tend to spend a lot of time day dreaming about my future farm. The other day when I was doing that I had what I think is a brilliant idea. After purchasing my land in SomePlace, USA I wouldn't mind having an Airstream trailer to call home for a time. Of course I would update the Airstream so it is modern, light, and airy, so that I could live in it while building a house. I would also want an outdoor room for cooking, eating, and lounging (hello hammock) so that living space is not confined to a narrow Airstream . . . In any case, here are a few photos that inspired this train of thinking.

Spring Home Dreams

I'm at it again. I've been dreaming of how I will decorate my future home / been reading up on my favorite interior design blogs. :) Here are some rather dreamy pictures of a home I came across on the Desire to Inspire blog.

I am loving the sofa . . . it even looks like it may be fairly simple to make. I also really like the vase with the bells of Ireland stuck in it, what a lovely choice for spring flower.

Talk about dreamy. I would give anything to be curled up in this nook reading a good novel and enjoying some fresh lemonade.


Ok, now this may be sort of weird, but the bathroom is one of my favorite rooms of a house. It has so much potential to be a relaxing space, kind of like a spa. This bathroom definitely accomplished the spa look. Love the flowers sitting across the tub as well.


I can imagine myself sitting around this table with good friends enjoying a fresh meal during the summer. Am lovin' the canvas tent that's creating the feel of an outdoor dining room.
